Charlie Brown Thanksgiving prayer

Preparation

It is currently 72 degrees F. It doesn't really FEEL like Thanksgiving is next week and Christmas is just a little over a month away.

Here in the Rio Grande Valley we don't get snow or even really a drizzle so have be more intentional about getting into the Holiday spirit. This is a really fun time of the year so we are going to do what it takes to make it special.

We printed out this great Thanksgiving Countdown Calendar from Family Fun.

We going to watch Charlie Brown's Thanksgiving.

We have started by listening to Christmas music on Pandora, while we are doing our school work.

We are going to get out the crafty things to make our personal gifts.

We are going to get ready for our favorite holiday sweets: orange balls, peanut butter balls, chocolate covered pretzels, etc. YUMMY!

Hope yall are having fun planning and just being together making memories!

The Great Outdoors and Great Memories

In September, we were able to pick up the pop-up camper that our dear friends, the Clows, passed on to us! It was so much fun getting to visit with John's family and then take off down the road to Lake Somerville where we were able to spend a few days in the great outdoors. So many great memories were made...

...the raccoon that wanted to clean up any chips or cookie remnants while we were enjoying the campfire;

...the armadillo that decided to accompany Sc. on his way back from the bath house;

...the young deer grazing in the morning;

...swimming and fishing in the lake

...just being together.

Look What I Made!

With a little help from her Big Sis, R. made a cute water bottle holder today! So fun!

Roughing It and Mountain Climbing In Style

While Sc. was out of town, the kids built forts and mountains with their blankets in the living room. After all that craziness, they camped out in style and instead of putting the blankets away...

Do you know what a genome is?

Saturday, at the International Museum of Art and Science (IMAS), the kids and I enjoyed checking out this new exhibit called Genome: The Secret of How Life Works. It was a great interactive and educational exhibit. We are going to go back and use some of the lesson plans from here to prepare us to get the most out of it.

Flat Stanley Visits the Valley

Ok, for a dear family in South Carolina, we were asked to show 'ole Flat Stanley around the Valley. So, can you figure out some of the fun places he was able to visit and some new things he was able to do?

Stanley was able to...

1) Stand in a sago palm;

2) Visit a border crossing to Mexico;

3) Become acquainted with the local crops: aloe and sugar cane;

4) Visit the Marine Military Academy;

5) Look at the many colorful Murals in our downtown district;

6) Check out the Border Patrol Station;

7) Climb a mesquite tree;

8) Go "birding" at a nature park;

9) Hike a trail at a nature park;

10) Climb a Christmas tree;

11) Go to the Texas Travel Information Center;

12) Find the way to the beach;

Have fun!

P.S. Flat Stanley is wearing the Texas Longhorn cap and the Texas A&M jersey which signify the two most popular college teams in the area...I bite my tongue...(Go Red Raiders!)
